LemonAid for the Gulf started with two young Louisianans who wanted to help raise money through their lemonade stand to save the pelicans affected by the BP oil spill disaster during the summer of 2010. Through their LemonAid for the Gulf stand and LemonAid stands throughout the country hosted by other marvelous kids, they were able to raise $16,800 – all of which went to help save pelicans, several species of shore birds, a few sea turtles and two adorable dolphins.
During the summer of 2011, the 2nd Annual LemonAid for the Gulf stand in Alexandria, LA raised much needed funds for pelicans’ habitat restoration efforts of the Gulf Coast. In July, 2011, LemonAid for the Gulf was able to present to the National Wildlife Federation a check for $1,250.
